Mayor Mullholland: Busy time for Kyogle

Danielle Mulholland, Mayor of Kyogle
Kyogle

We’ve had a busy few months with plenty of events on the calendar, but the highlights of the last few months would have to be Australia Day, ANZAC Day, the Mallanganee Observatory launch, welcoming three new Australians to our communities, Bonalbo’s Eat Street, the forthcoming writer’s festival, and of course the 100th anniversary of the Bonalbo Show. There’s so many events around the area it’s sometimes hard to keep up with them all.  A big shout out also goes to the organisers of the Farmers Markets and the Kyogle Bazaar for the fantastic work they do, bringing our communities together.

This year’s Bonalbo Show marked an incredible milestone – its 100th anniversary-and what a show it was! We were pleased to see representation from all three levels of government, with Janelle Saffin and Kevin Hogan in attendance. There truly was something for everyone: rides, food vans, a BBQ running all day, and a bar to top it off. It was easily the biggest and best show yet all supported by an army of volunteers behind the scenes.

Congratulations to everyone involved. Events like this don’t happen without a huge amount of effort, and the result was outstanding.

Our works program continues to be packed, so if you see our road crews and contractors out and about, be sure to give them a wave. They’re doing a fantastic job under significant pressure, especially when working to tight deadlines tied to grant funding.

I can confirm that the Lions Road is now open to light traffic only.  The road is not suitable for caravans and heavy vehicles and work on the road is not yet complete but at least it’s open for the time being.  There’s a possibility that if further major works are required or significant, and adverse weather conditions occur, then further closures may happen but we’ll try to give as much notice as possible if this becomes necessary.

Council is continuing to make progress on the new Kyogle Recreation/Evacuation Centre, and we remain committed to advocating strongly for funding to complete Stage 2.  Council’s position on the Clarence Way remains focused on completing the project but we need an additional $13M for that to occur.  With funding opportunities becoming more limited, it’s more important than ever that we stay proactive in making our case.

It’s also important to note that, through the Country Mayors Association, the issue of fuel security for rural and remote areas remains front and centre with the State and Federal Governments acutely aware of the need to prioritise supplies for rural and remote areas across our region.

Looking ahead, the Kyogle Lions Community Food Pantry will host a Community Information Day on Thursday, 30 April 2026, from 8:30am to 2pm at 33-35 Bloore Street, Kyogle. This is a great opportunity for residents to connect with a range of local organisations and government agencies and learn more about the support services available across our region, with information booths being set up onsite.

As service providers will be arriving early to set up, patrons are asked to be mindful of parking arrangements during the morning. Once setup is complete, vehicles will be moved to allow regular access.

There’ll be a free sausage sizzle hosted by Kyogle Family and Community Support Services, so come along, grab a bite, and see what’s what.

Until next time,

Cr Danielle Mulholland
